Brass body, 9" high (22 cm). Suitable for circular slides and 1 1/3" (3.5 cm) slides. C. 1880.

Schoenner magic lantern with a strikingly high chimney. The dimensions are approx. 43 cm high x 29 cm long x 12.5 cm wide. A small metal plate with the manufacturer's trademark clearly indicates that it is a lantern by Jean Schoenner.

This magic lantern may be not of a spectacular design.... what makes it very particularly are the four beautiful shaped gold coloured legs.

Magic Lantern Jean Schoenner. Sizes: 28 x 8 x 30 cm (including the chimney which is missing here).

Wonderful tin magic lantern with wood base in original wood box; parts of the lantern green lacquered. Hand written on bottom of the wood box, in pencil, "Magic Lantern for a Christmas Present to Adam Albert, from his Mother, Minnie Albert. December 24, 1890". "From Henry ?...zelman, Warren Avenue, Chicago, Il. To Adam Albert, 165 Schiller Street, Chicago, Il. January 1, 1891"

Improved Duplex Magic Lantern. The text that is pressed in the front of the lens reads: Improved Duplex J.S & Co.

This red painted lantern is illuminated by a simple oil lamp. It is clearly marked 'The Bijou Magic Lantern' by means of a striking large shield, covering a considerable part of the side door. Probably the lantern was manufactured by Jean Schoenner, in particular for the American market. The lantern is depicted on the label of some of their slide boxes (see below). It is approximately 10" long x 4" deep x 8 1/2" high (25.5 x 10 x 21.5 cm).

Though this magic lantern is mounted on a tin base that is seen on a number of Schoenner magic lanterns the decorative chimney collar is very unusual so it's not sure that the lantern belongs in the wood box and is really made by Schoener.

The wood box measures approx. 12” tall and 7” by 5” (3.5 x 18 x 12.5 cm) at the base. The Case opens somewhat like a wardrobe suitcase revealing a fitted interior which holds slides of different types. The Lantern itself measures approx 12 1/2” tall (to the top of the chimney) and 4 1/4” by 6 1/4" (31.75 x 11 x 16 cm) at the base. The Lantern has slide mounts for both circular slides and oblong strip slides.
Solid wooden box for Jean Schoener's lantern slides supplied with a nostalgic label. The boy uses the magic lantern to project the J.S. trade mark on the wall.
