5	I you ! A treasure chest full of magic lantern slides telling love stories

Ye banks and braes A set of five slides made by Bamforth & Co. after a song written by Robert Burns (1791). This famous song is about a heartbroken woman whose lover left her with only the thorn of a rose. Burns wrote three versions of the song, all published in 1791. This is the third version.

	This set of 16 slides was made by York & Son, England, as indicated by a small triangular label in the upper left corner. This set was released in shades of grey; more expensive versions were coloured. 'Me and Jim: or our first quarrel' is a dramatic 1897 poem written under the pen name 'Jims Wife' (the pseudonym of Ada Martin, later Mrs. Clement Nugent Jackson). It was published in the collection [Gordon League Ballads for Working Men and Women] and later adapted into populair magic lantern slide lecture sets for public recitations.
