Magic lantern - A lot of marvellous slides.

A rather extensive collection of marvellous magic lantern slides.

The magic lantern slides in this item belong nearly all to one of the two most occurring kinds: small sheets of glass mounted in a hard wooden frame, and small sheets of glass without a frame. Below from both types only the glasses with the images are shown.
The glasses in a wooden frame entirely look roughly like this: Often the name of the manufacturer is pressed into the frame. Sometimes a label with the name of the manufacturer and/or the name of the series/slide is pasted on a long side. Below they are provided with a brown edge with wood grain.	Other, usually cheaper slides, are not mounted in a frame but, often covered by a protecting glass and a paper mask, only provided with a edge of paper adhesive tape. These slides occur mainly in two formats: c. 8.2 x 8.2 cm and 10 x 8.2 cm. Sometimes they are provided with a label in the top corner with the name of the manufacturer, and sometimes also a label with the name of the series and/or the slide. Below they are provided with a dark gray paper like border.

The Ruins of Bridge, Rome. Exceptionally large slide in a wooden frame measuring 9" x 4.25" (c. 23 x 11cm).	Sister Living in Comfort. Part of a set of two slides. The other shows the other sister, living in povertry. The slide is 3" (7,6 cm) in diameter and is mounted in a wooden frame measuring 4" x 7" (10 x 18 cm).

Watervall. Hand painted magic lantern slide in a wooden frame.	Parables of Christ The Wicked Husbandman. Slide in wooden frame 10 x 18 cm with the name of the manufacturer "T.M.McAllister OPTICIAN N.Y." pressed in the wood.

Interlaken. Magic lantern slide in a wooden frame, 10 x 18 cm. A small paper label on the wooden frame reads 'Interlachen' and the name of the manufacturer 'Cox, London' is pressed into the wood.	Gunpowder. Square (8.2 x 8.2 cm or 3.25 inches) magic lantern slide. Maybe one of a set temperance slides. Manufacturer and title unknown.

Crypt of the Holy Sepulchre. Magic lantern slide in a wooden frame, 10 x 18 cm.	Boy with wings. Probably one slide from a series about a fairy tale. Square (8.2 x 8.2 cm or 3.25 inches) magic lantern slide.

Caxtons Printing Press. One slide from an unknown set made by Newton & Co. 8 x 8 cm.	THE MAGICIANS DEATH. One slide from an unknown set made by Newton & Co. 8 x 8 cm.

PEOPLE CAUGHT IN A STORM. Manufacturer Newton & Co. Size: 8.2 cm x 8.2 cm.	Title and manufacturer unknown.

I ONLY TAKE A LITTLE WINE Slide nr 5 from a set of 6 platen produced by UK Band of Hope Union, 1892.	HORSE AND COACHES No 38 from a Victorian temperance set "TEMPERANCE PICTURE GALLERY".

CAPTURED FRENCH SHIP Lord Horatio Nelson. Size 8.2 x 8.2 cm.
