Un Sauvetage (A
rescue operation). A nice set of 12 transparents. Though these
slides are not signed they probably are from the famous French cartoonist
Benjamin Armand Rabier. Sizes of the lantern slide
are 3 1/8" x 3 7/8" (8 x 10 cm) and the image sizes are 2 1/2" x 3 1/8" (6.35 x
8 cm). The slides are numbered from 1-12 and the title of the series is written
in ink on the front left of slide #1. These transparents are made of a very thin and fragile material, possibly isinglass or cellophane. |

Brer Rabbit magic lantern slides. Leading actors in this story are the characters from Joel Chandler Harris' book 'Nights with Uncle Remus. Myths and Legends of the Old Plantation'. These 15 British hand painted magic lantern slides measure 3.25 inches square. The story is called 'Brer Rabbit, Wolf and Terrapin'. They may date from the 1880s.
