Policeman takes a drink.

The mans eyes move from side to side when the shifting glass is pulled in and out. The slide measures 18 cm (7") by 10 cm (4").

This single slipping slide with the image of a woman in a traditional dress that is sniffing some snuff is missing the shifting glass that covers the left arm partially and makes her appear to be taking a snuff.

It must have been something like this.

Single slipping slide depicting a 'Greenwich Pensioner'. The frame measures 7 x 3 1/4 inches.

The name of the maker is printed on the frame: Newton 3 Fleet Street, London.
The English Greenwich Hospital was built in 1695 as an institute for retired seamen who had been injured or grown old in the service of the crown.

Seamen contributed sixpence a month from their pay towards the upkeep of the hospital. Pensioners were admitted from 1705 and originally wore a uniform of dark grey with a blue lining and brass buttons. The colour of the uniforms changed to brown and then blue. By the 19th century it was found preferable to pay out pensions and in 1869 the Hospital closed.

What is this? An authority undermining cartoon or just a funny picture. Policeman walking with his 'police dog'?
A nice wooden framed mechanical magic lantern slide that measures 17.5 x 10.5 cm including frame.

His colleague policeman is also not a shining example by kicking an innocent market woman. Sizes of the wooden frame 7" x 3 7/8" (17.8 cm x 9.8 cm).

This funny single slipping magic lantern slide shows a man drinking. When you pull the slipping glass his belly grows discernibly.
The frame measures 7" long x 4" high (c. 18 x 10 cm).

Double slipping slide featuring a butcher's boy standing outside a baker's shop. Two pairs of dogs take an interest in the plate of meat he is carrying. A maker's mark for Thompson of Liverpool is pressed into the wooden frame of the slide.

Mechanical magic lantern slide depicting a drinking cow while standing in the river. By moving the lever its head is going up and down. It measures 7 x 3.5 inches (18 x 9 cm).

"Dioramic - Noah Entering the Ark". This beautiful hand-painted image shows Noah shepherding the animals onto the Ark. The glass part slides slowly across the opening to give the impression of movement of the animals. The wood frame measures 14" x 4" x 1/2" (ca 35.5 x 10 x 1.25 cm).

Man with a growing Pinocchio-nose. A funny hand-painted double slipping magic lantern slide mounted in a wooden frame. Pull the glass slide on one side to make the nose grow and the glass on the other side to make the eyes move. Great humorous item. It measures 17.5 x 10.5 cm including the frame.
