Catalogue of magic lantern slides |

THEOBALD & Co. The English manufacturer/wholesaler of an impressive amount of magic lantern slide sets John Theobald (1858-1926) founded his business in the 1880s in London. In spite of the addition '& Co.' the business was always the sole property of John. The company also supplied lithographic transfers in sheets, for slide production by the purchaser and slides on special transparent paper, for placing between two glass plates. He run the business until October 1911. |

Directions for use: The series of mainly 12-slide sets have been produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They seem to have been sold under a number of different trade names, with many retailers sometimes applying their own series name. That's also why the slide sets come upon in a lot of different cardboard boxes. It is therefore not sure that Theobald is the manufacturer of all the slide sets mentioned below, or that he was partly only one of the many retailers. The titles below are marked as follows: TCAT1890 # 00 --- The set occurs in the 1890 Theobald & Co. Catalogue. ABTS # 00 --- The set is known as All Brithish T Series. TTSS # 00 --- The set is known as a part of Theobald Transfer Slide Sets. LGSCAT --- Sets that appear in the Lancaster Catalogue as Lancaster's Graphochrome Slides (without serial number).
